Oak Lawn / Mt. Greenwood Crime Alert - Pair of Negroes doing Purse Snatching Robberies

OAK LAWN, Ill. - Police in Oak Lawn are investigating a purse-snatching robbery reported Tuesday afternoon in the western suburb.

Three female victims were walking southbound in the 9700 block of South Kostner at 4:45 p.m. when a man walked past them before approaching them from behind, grabbing one of their purses and running away northbound, according to a statement from Oak Lawn police.

The victims chased after him, one of them tackled him and they got into a struggle on the ground over the purse, police said. A woman who police said was an accomplice to the man separated them before trying to take the purse of one of the other victims.

The two suspects were able to break free and drive off in a Toyota, police said.

The male suspect was described as a 5-foot-10, 150-pound black man between 18 and 21 years old, according to police. He had a dark complexion and was wearing dark pants and a dark coat. His accomplice was described as an 18-to-21-year-old black woman with a medium to dark complexion and dark hair in a ponytail.

The vehicle in which they sped away was a tan or light brown Toyota with a partial license plate of “Z694.”
