A 37-year-old man has died after being taken from the Metropolitan Correctional Center in the Loop on Sunday morning, officials said.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics were called to the federal detention center at 71 W. Van Buren St. at 10:50 a.m., said Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.
According to a source, the man was an inmate.
The man was in critical condition when he was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Hernandez said. He said the man was "down" for an unknown cause.
Officials with the Cook County medical examiner's office were notified of the death but were not giving any details, according to the office.
He was pronounced dead at 11:43 a.m. An autopsy is expected on Monday, according to the office.
