A police sergeant in southwest suburban Crestwood was injured after a woman suspected of stealing at a Wal-Mart store clipped him with her car early Thursday.
Police responded to a call of retail theft involving a woman and a child in the store at Cicero Avenue and 135th Street around 1:10 a.m., according to authorities.
Responding officers saw a woman in her late 20s sitting in a car with her daughter. The woman backed into one officer’s car and then drove forward, clipping a shopping cart corral and a Crestwood patrol sergeant standing in front of her car, authorities said.
Police caught up with the woman at 150th Street and Kostner Avenue in Midlothian, where she and her child were taken into custody. The daughter’s age was not available.
The Crestwood sergeant was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Charges were pending.
