A visiting high school wrestling coach has been charged with threatening and inappropriately touching some students during an overnight stay at a Yorkville hotel, police said.
David Murphy, 29, of Mokena, is facing multiple counts of battery and sexual abuse connected to a stay with at least six students the night of Dec. 11 at a hotel in the 300 block of East Countryside Parkway.
Murphy was a teacher at Herscher High School in Herscher, Ill., south of Kankakee. According to court records, Murphy is currently unemployed. He is no longer working at the school.
In addition to felony abuse, assault and battery charges, Murphy has also been charged with knowingly letting at least one student drink alcohol in the hotel room where they were staying.
Statements made by several female students led to the charges being filed against Murphy.
Kendall County court documents shed details on what the students say happened during the overnight stay.
In their allegations, the girls said Murphy groped them, kissed them and pulled their pants down to expose their underwear. Sometimes, this was done by force or threat, according to Kendall County court records.
Two other juveniles said Murphy became physically violent with them, the records state.
